Help with Family Emergency
Hi, My name is Skyler and I'm writing this on behalf of my parents. I absolutely hate having to write this because I’m used to being the one helping everyone else (as seen by my work as the Executive Director of Human Defense Initiative ), but this is an absolute emergency for my family.
My parents run a metal roofing company which is dependent on my stepdad being able to have a work truck (because of the ladders and tools he needs to complete a job). Two weeks ago, the transmission gave out. They live week to week like many people, so they didn’t have the funds for the repair. They called the owner of the dealership which they financed the truck through since he does his own in-house financing and he assured us he would have the transmission repaired and would add the repair costs to the end of their loan as extra payments. We were so grateful for this offer!
My stepdad has now been out of work for two weeks waiting to get the truck back, a half of a month without any income. Today, the owner of the dealership called and said he ended up paying a larger amount to have the truck repaired than they originally agreed to, that he isn’t going to put it on the end of the loan as extra payments, and he wants all the money up front. Additionally, he said he’s just going to go ahead and keep the truck if we don't have the money. So, he totally went back and changed everything he had told them to begin with! Since the loan is through his bank, there’s nothing we can do about it and my mother doesn’t have a vehicle so this was the only vehicle my parents had.
My stepdad has calls coming in and jobs lined up that he cannot get to or complete without a truck. Along with other bills, now the rent is due. So, we have decided to try to raise the funds for a down payment on another used truck. I, myself, work but do not have or make enough to pay for their rent or down payment.
My stepdad is 64 years old and works full-time like a young man to provide for himself and my mom. They are always helping everyone else and give to those who are in need. They never ask for any help and just push through by the grace of God every month. But if they don’t get another truck, they will lose all of their work, customers and their business! This will cost them their home and they will have no vehicle, or place to live. This is unimaginable for me to even think about! But it doesn’t take long when you live week to week.
Please help if you feel that God puts it on your heart. They have never been in this position before and don’t have family that can help financially. My stepdad is THE hardest working man I know! He works in 100+ degree heat on metal roofs, cuts himself, gets hurt, breaks fingers, but always just keeps going and pushing through! We chose $5,500 to cover a down payment, rent and enough to cover GoFundMe fees but are grateful for any help.
Let's help him so he can get back in a truck, start working again, and pay his bills on his own!
