Support Stephanie’s Final Wish

My strong and beautiful Mom (Stephanie) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in early December 2023. She has declined so rapidly her diagnosis was updated to PSP in March 2024. She was admitted to Bristol Hospice in April 2024 and was accepted to Celia’s Hospice House in June 2024. As you can imagine PSP is an incredibly debilitating illness that takes all independence- and for that to happen to my mom who has provided and taken care of our family has been very devastating. Her disease has rapidly been causing her to lose her ability to swallow and communicate. Instead of starving to death or getting pneumonia from aspirating Mom has chosen Death With Dignity. My mom’s final wishes are to be cremated and have her ashes solidified into Parting Stones. While we’re trying to get insurance to cover as much as possible, we’ve been told there will be a large out-of-pocket cost in addition to medical bills that have already been accumulating. The DWD medication is not covered by insurance. In addition, Mom does not qualify for Medicaid benefits to help pay for her stay at Celia’s. Mom has always been someone that will take care of you in any way she can. She has spent so many years as a caring mom and wife, as a teacher to so many local kids, and as a loving soul to others in her community and we just want to be able to give the same back to her.
