Help Heather Beat Cancer!
The pandemic has been hard on lots of parents and grandparents, not seeing family, and missing medical appointments for fear of getting sick, and the strain of living alone in these difficult times. Our family has not been immune to the tragedies that have faced many. In March our mother was diagnosed with a tumor while undergoing delayed heart surgery. To say we were devastated is an understatement. What should have been a moment of relief became a daunting prospect of the difficult months ahead. After weeks of testing the diagnosis was clear, Stage 3 lung cancer and thyroid cancer, which would mean weeks of treatment and then rehabilitation. While we are doing everything we can to support our mother emotionally and financially this is more than we can handle. Help from her insurance company and medicare is a godsend, but it does not cover copays or the prospect of staying near the hospital to recover from her multiple therapies, and driving over an hour each way would only contribute to the stress already on her physically. Normally we would not ask for financial help, and our mother definitely would not either, but this is more than we can handle financially and we want the best for our mother so she can watch her grandchildren graduate middle school and hopefully high school.
