Dominic’s Medical Fund
Donation protected
Two weeks ago our sweet friend Dominic went into respiratory distress at home. His mom, Jessi, rushed him to the nearest Cook’s Children Urgent Care where they worked to stabilize his breathing. His respiration was almost 3 times what the normal rate is for a 3-year-old and his blood oxygen level was low enough that they put him on oxygen. After 3 unsuccessful breathing nebulizer treatments they transported him via ambulance to Cook’s Children Emergency Room. He was diagnosed with Reactive Airway Disorder (a precursor for asthma) and an unknown viral infection (negative for COVID, strep, and flu). Because of his Reactive Airway Disorder, his parents have to keep a close eye on his breathing every time he gets sick, because his airway will narrow. He was admitted overnight and narrowly able to avoid an ICU stay. After 10 nebulizer treatments and a variety of IV medications he was finally stable enough to go home! He now has an inhaler for his lungs and is feeling better, but his breathing difficulties flare up each time he comes in contact with any kind of cold or viral infection.
Because of a paperwork mishap, Dominic is currently under-insured. None of his urgent care visit, ambulance ride, hospital stay, treatments, or medication are being covered by insurance and having to be paid for completely out of pocket. Additionally, Jessi and Mario have had to take unpaid time off work in order to stay with Dominic until he has felt better. Cook’s Children is trying to help Jessi and Mario apply for their charity program through the hospital, but as of right now their medical bills for Dominic are astronomical.
If you are able to do so, their family could really use some financial help through this difficult time. Any amount helps, even just $5. They are extremely hard-working and doing the very best they can to help Dominic and their family, who they cherish more than anything in the world. They are so lucky to have such an incredible village of people around them that love them, and I know they would be so incredibly forever grateful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. God Bless you all.
