In Memory of Ben White

Ben White, a longtime economic and financial journalist, died on June 1 due to complications from ongoing heart issues. He was 52.

Many of his friends and former colleagues have reached out asking how they can help Ben’s beloved teenage sons, whose achievements and athletic journeys their father proudly touted throughout their childhoods.

Ben’s family has allowed us to post this GoFundMe to benefit his sons’ education and well-being. Any contribution is welcome, even a few dollars, along with words of support.

The family also suggested a charity to support in Ben’s honor, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Ben loved being a reporter and worked at major news outlets during his 30-year career in journalism. After starting out at National Journal’s Hotline during its early years, Ben went to the Washington Post, the Financial Times, the New York Times, Politico and The Messenger. He launched the Morning Money column at Politico and grew it into a scoop-filled must-read for everyone straddling the worlds of finance and politics. Along the way he appeared frequently as a commentator on CNBC and MSNBC. Ben took sports fandom to the next level, and his political observations always came with a side of sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders and the New York Yankees.

Ben grew up in Chevy Chase D.C. where he attended the Edmund Burke School. He graduated from Kenyon College in 1994. He is survived by his two sons, Jacob and Raphael, and their mother, Robin; his brother Mark; and his partner Sara.
