MacMillan Cancer Support
So if you asked me in January what MacMillan do I would have given you the answer that they support people with cancer. Yes that is true but after seeing first hand this year what support they do, it only feels right to give something back.
In January Jeff became really unwell, no one quite knew what was wrong but it got to the point where he couldn’t get out of bed. With a lot of back and forth to the GP and A&E a MRI scan revealed Jeffs brain tumour which he had for many years had grown aggressively. Off to Liverpool we go for an operation for it to be removed. As a family we thought that was it, recover and life will go back to normal. This wasn’t the case and a couple of weeks later we were told his benign tumor had changed to something called spindle cells which were cancerous. No one quite knew what to do as this is really rare with the consultant only ever hearing of this once before. So, the decision was made that the best course of action was to start chemotherapy in Liverpool cancer centre. 6 rounds over 5 months. This is where MacMillan support comes in. Every stay they would visit Jeff, talk to him about football and family life, offer him advice about his treatment and the support available, they arranged for activities to make the days go quicker, and one day bought in an flute player from the Liverpool orchestras who played music to him. It was Jeff’s birthday on one of his days and a male support worker went off to a ice cream van and got him an ice cream after Jeff mentioned he would love a Mr Whippy with a flake. These all sound like really small gestures and they are but when you are stuck in a hospital room, hooked up to a machine and not able to leave these little gestures are actually massive!
So on January 26th 2025 I am going to go and do Hyrox women’s solo. For anyone that doesn’t know what hyrox is it’s a lot of running, burpees, sled pushing and pulling, farmers carry, lunges, rowing, skiing and wall balls. All things I actually enjoy doing but it’s for a purpose to raise money for MacMillian, to say thank you but to also put some funds in for any other family that has to battle this horrible illness!
I know times are hard but if everyone reading could just donate £1, it would make a huge difference!
Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
