Comet's Emergency Vet Bills
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Over Labor Day weekend, Katie and I had to unexpectedly take our 2 year old puppy, Comet, to the emergency vet. This past Saturday, we noticed Comet was starting to act lethargic, was refusing food and water, and could not keep anything down. What we thought might just be an upset stomach, turned into Comet going into what is called SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia) with a heart rate of 350 beats per minute. On top of having SVT, he had a fever, low blood pressure, and a foreign body in his intestines. We were told he might not make it through the night.
Sunday morning, Comet had a series of heart tests to determine the cause of his SVT. Believe it or not, having a bowel obstruction is not usually coupled with what his heart was doing. After many medications, they were able to lower his heart rate and take him into emergency surgery where they repaired his bowel obstruction. Comet was hospitalized in the ICU for 3 days.
We were finally able to bring Comet home earlier this week. He was put on strict rest for 3 weeks and is needing a follow up cardiology appointment to check on his heart once he is fully healed from his surgery.
Unfortunately, Comet regressed once again and was brought back to the emergency vet on 9/7 when they diagnosed him with having an ileus. An ileus is the loss of motility in your intestines and is also very dangerous. Yet again, Comet had to be hospitalized. Comet is back home today, 9/8, and starting to look/act a little more like himself. We are so thrilled to have him home.
As you can imagine, this has put a huge financial and emotional strain on our family. I am two months into starting medical school and I do not have an income.
We have spent over $15,000 on Comet's medical bills.
Any contribution is a HUGE help. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
