Let's help George out
Donation protected
My brother, George, was involved in a freak accident on Friday, July 29th, 2016. He is a mechanic and was working on a customer’s car when suddenly shavings from the piece of metal he was cutting flew under his protective mask. One of pieces of metal got so far up under the mask, that it perforated his left eye, causing severe injury.
He underwent surgery on Saturday morning, but his prognosis indicates that chances of him getting his full vision back in his left eye are slim. After surgery, we found out that the piece lodged in his eye was 4.3 millimeters in diameter, which explains why the injury was so significant.
As you can imagine this unfortunate event has turned our lives upside down, George was classified as an “independent contractor” and therefore the shop he was working for didn’t provide employees with worker’s compensation benefits. This means he is on the hook for all of his medical expenses as well as for his lost wages.
For the time being we are concentrating on George’s health but as we all know medical expenses are very expensive and bills do not wait either. This will be a long process and there is no telling when George will be able to go back to work or if he will be able to work in the same profession. For now we are taking it day by day but we are also trying to make sure George’s responsibilities are taken care of.
We are a working-class family who live paycheck to paycheck and we are trying our best to pool all of our incomes together to be able to cover all of George’s expense as well as our own. My parents have sold vehicles and taken money out of their retirement funds to be able to pay for George’s medical expenses as well as for his mortgage, car loan and credit card bills but we don’t know how much longer we will be able to do this.
We are using this medium to reach out to those people out there who know what we’re going through and can give us a hand and contribute something to help George out during this difficult time. We understand if you can’t make a contribution, however we kindly ask that you keep him in your prayers. Thank you all and God Bless!
