Mikeys Journey

Hi, my name is Brandy and I am fundraising for Michael (Mikey) Mcginnis and his journey through a recent life altering experience and recovery.
Recently we went through an immensely scary incident that seems to have changed our lives drastically.
Mikey and I were laying in bed 4 weeks ago, the morning of January 8th. That is the day our nightmare began. Mikey was attacked and stabbed 5 times.
We overheard some yelling and cussing between our roommate and her grandson coming from the living room. Mikey, being the kind-hearted, caring person he is, got up to make sure everything was okay and that our roommate was safe and alright.
As Mikey was attempting to deescalate the situation, That is when it happened. The unthinkable, the kind of stuff you only see on T.V. The grandson came at Mikey, violently attacking him, stabbing him with a double edged knife. He stabbed him the first time in the abdomen on his left side, nicking Mikey’s spleen and bowel, barely missing his lung. In shock, Mikey grabbed his side and took a few steps back. When he looked back up in awe of the blood on his hands, that is when the attack continued. The grandson was coming at Mikey slashing him with the knife 4 more times. Once in the throat, barely missing his carotid artery, twice on the nose cutting in open, and once across and above his left eye.
Mikey was taken to CRMC where he was stabilized and transported to Ascension St. John’s Neuro-Vascular Trauma CCU in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We have been here now for 4 very long, hard, and painful weeks, where Mikey has now undergone 6 procedures with 4 of them being major surgeries.
With all thanks going to God, all the people praying for him, and his personal surgical trauma team of doctors and nurses, he has been moved out of CCU and onto the Neuro Trauma Surgical floor with a wound-vac and sadly an ileostomy, which we hope will be reversed in approximately 3 months.
With all that being said, our nightmare doesn’t end here. Mikey still has a long road of recovery ahead of him with at least 2 more surgeries, to remove the wound-vac and reverse the ostomy. Not to mention the countless doctors appointments he will have to come back to Tulsa for once he is well enough for discharge from the hospital.
All of you that know Mikey, know that he is one of the most laidback, easygoing people with a heart of gold, always willing to help anyone out with anything they need. Now Mikey and i need your help. We will use the funds raised to pay for food and lodging, uber and gas to and from upcoming appointments after he is discharged from the hospital, personal bills we have piling up at home, medical supplies he will need for his ostomy once we get home, medical bills that are stacking up to the roof, and possibly help getting us out of the house this nightmare happened in and into a new place we both feel safe.
