Nathan and Paige Airriess’s one-year-old son Lincoln was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma cancer on July 22, 2015. Hepatoblastoma is a very rare cancer that originates in cells in the liver. This cancer primarily affects children from infancy to about five years of age. This cancer is so rare that it only affects one to two children out of a million.
About a month ago Lincoln turned one and he had his one-year check up with their family doctor. She informed them that that Lincoln was entirely healthy. A couple of day’s later Lincoln woke up with a high fever resulting in Paige and Nathan taking him to the Lacombe emergency at 3:30 in the morning. The on call doctor informed them that Lincoln had a fever because of an ear infection. Furthermore, he also felt a large lump on the right side of Lincoln’s stomach. He promptly booked them an emergency ultrasound in Red Deer the following morning. After that appointment they were directed to go back to the on call doctor from the Lacombe emergency. He then informed Paige and Nathan that Lincoln had a 7cm mass on his liver that may be cancerous.
The next day they were directed to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton. After multiple tests the oncology team booked Lincoln into surgery for the following week. On July 8th, 2015, Lincoln underwent surgery to remove the 7cm tumor. They had to remove part of Lincoln’s liver as well as his gall bladder. Two weeks after the surgery the biopsy results confirmed that the tumor was cancerous. Additionally, that cancer cells still remain in Lincoln’s body. The oncology team informed Nathan and Paige that Lincoln must undergo two rounds of chemo. Lincoln has now started his chemo treatments. The funds raised will go towards the families daily expenses. THANK YOU ALL!
