Hello some of you may remember my friend Rachel. She was born with cerebral palsy and has endured a lot in her short 30 years. She always has a winning attitude and a great smile throughout all of it.
Cerebral palsy is a congenital disorder of movement, muscle tone, or posture. After her second kidney transplant, she regressed for a while and was wheelchair-bound. She is now ambulatory with a walker. She receives Botox injections in her legs to loosen the tight muscles in her calves and hip flexors. She also receives physical therapy twice a week. Her parents are amazing people and they would never think to ever post anything on Facebook nor feel like they are asking for a handout.
I would prefer to think of it as a hand up.
Rachel and I share a very close bond; we even share the same birthday. I have watched this family through all the trials and tribulations and they always seem to come out on top. There is a device called a walk aid which will correct Rachel’s gait and help her walk correctly. The two videos show the before and after using this device. As you can see her left foot is toed in and has a tendency to roll out. These 2 devices (1 for each leg) cost $10,400 & are not covered by insurance. The reason for that is they consider it “experimental“. The company that makes these devices are asking Mary and Bart to give them $10,400 upfront. Once they do so, Rachel will receive both walk aids.
I feel in my heart that this is a miracle in the making. Rachel never asks for anything and always has a winning attitude and a smile.
The money that we are raising today will pay for the devices as well as any aftercare therapy that will be involved. Will you please help contribute to Rachel’s go fund me page? Thank you for your support. Please feel free to SHARE this on your page as well. Remember there’s no contribution that’s too small; anything is better than nothing!!! Thank you!
