Supporting Denise Walker Timmins through Cancer

Having someone special in your life for over 35 years doesn’t happen every day. Texting on an everyday basis was normal for us, but this message was different, causing our jaws to drop, making our eyes tear, and leaving us absolutely speechless. She was just going for pre-testing for a partial knee replacement when a chest x-ray showed a mass. She was immediately sent to the emergency room where she underwent a cat scan. Waiting on the results felt like years off our lives. Hearing the news “I have lung cancer” was heartbreaking. All I kept thinking was, “WHAT, this can’t happen to one of my crew,” but unfortunately the news was true.

Denise is an amazing mother of 3 beautiful children Jonathan, Emily, and Andrew. Always putting them first, she is so proud of all their accomplishments. Jonathan is a Triage Coordinator for Sharing Hope SC, Emily is a guidance counselor in Boston, and Andrew is as talented as ever going to Baldwin Wallace.

She is caring, thoughtful and amazing in more ways than one, always putting herself second and everyone else in her life first. She is beautiful on the inside and out. We have had many sleepovers. One I can recall so clearly. She was at my house and after a night out she wanted a snack. I gave her chocolate rice cakes because that’s the only “snack” that I had. She turns to me and says, “THAT’S NOT JUNK.”. To this day we still laugh about it. It may sound silly but to us it was so funny. I’m sure we all have our own funny memories with Denise. We have the best group of friends who support each other. We have laughed together, cried together, and been each other’s support through the good times and bad.

We all know how expensive life is on a regular basis but imagine being on disability and having to pay all the additional medical expenses. I know she will beat this. She has no choice. She has the loving support of her family and friends who all love her unconditionally. It’s not going to be an easy road ahead but with all her support, it will make it a little easier.
