Rolling Hills DI Globals May 23-28!

Hi, we are Quincy, Michael, Grant, Emma, Gayathri and Daniel. We are the Destination Imagination "Tardistars" representing Rolling Hills Elementary School in Aurora, Colorado. We are 4th graders at Rolling Hills, and are asking for your help regarding the Destination Imagination (D.I.) Global Finals Tournament. The D.I. program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that encourages students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. In this program we learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and how to solve problems as a team.
This year, our team decided to create a program and presentation about Tardigrades, a water-dwelling, tiny animal with eight legs. Destination Imagination requires teams of kids to work almost completely independently, developing their own ideas and materials for their presentations. We spent many weeks outside of school working together and practicing to put together our best effort for the official D.I. competition.
On March 19, we competed in the Destination Imagination Tournament for Cherry Creek Schools, and were very proud to finish in first place in our level! This allowed us to advance to the D.I. State Tournament, held April 9 at the Auraria Campus in Denver. Competing against 24 top teams from all over Colorado, we were surprised and thrilled to again finish in first place and qualify for the D.I. Global Finals Tournament!
Scheduled for May 25-28 of 2016, more than 17,000+ attendees from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries will gather in Knoxville, Tennessee for the world’s largest celebration of creativity.
Our families have been supporting us through this effort, but there are some expenses associated with our trip to Knoxville. The six of us students have worked very hard and we are hoping to bring together our community and raise the money we need to be able to participate in this competition. This money will be used for registration fees and transportation for the group.
Please help us bring this once-in-a-lifetime experience to our team and help make this trip happen. We know we have a fantastic community who has been very supportive, and we are hopeful we can rally that community together to make this a reality.
