Help Mackie walk again!

We’re the Sheehan family and we need your help to give our adorable orange tabby cat, Mackie Sheehan, the birthday gift he deserves: a chance to run and play like a normal kitten!

Turning one next week, Mackie's first year hasn't been all sunshine and zoomies. He suffers from grade 3 luxating patella on both knees, a condition where his kneecaps have grown out of place, leaving him unable to walk properly. The constant pain forces him to hop and drag himself around – not the joyful life a sweet kitten should have.

He needs surgery right away to prevent grade 4 luxation, irreparable damage or amputation.

Mackie is more than just a pet, he’s, our family. We adopted him last June from Community Cats Alive (A fantastic local organization) after losing our senior cat, Domo to old age. We were heartbroken. Then came Mackie, a ball of orange fluff brimming with curiosity, goofiness, and affection and needing a home. He filled our home with laughter and light once again but as he grew, we could see something was very wrong.

Surgery is Mackie's ticket to a pain-free life. His medical costs have been close to $4000 so far and the surgery estimate is $7000+. People have said, “He’s just a cat, you should just put him down, why would you spend that money on a cat?” The answer is simple: Mackie is young and otherwise perfectly healthy. With surgery, he can live a long, happy life full of playful adventures.

Euthanasia wouldn't be giving him the chance he deserves. We made a promise when we adopted him: to keep him safe, healthy, and loved. We won't break that promise. We have began working multiple full and part-time jobs once we learned he'd need surgery, but is much more than we realized, it’s upon us now and we could use a little support.

Our family has a long history of contributing charitable support to people and pets, but this time, we're reaching out for help.

We can imagine him running freely, pouncing, exploring, and living a long and healthy life filled with endless orange cat shenanigans.
