Medical Ctr in Ethiopia needs medicine & supplies
Following the success of the fun run we are now completing 200km for our Lenten appeal. In total over 1000km will be run in the next 40 days by brave (and fairly unfit but willing) volunteers. We have put the hospital on standby and they have promised not to stray too far from a defibrillator!! Updates on their progress will be provided on social media platforms.
All funds raised (plus gift aid) will be donated to the struggling medical centre in Ethiopia we are supporting. Their fantastic work is detailed below and makes such a huge difference to the communities they serve.
If you are a UK taxpayer, on pensions or wages, please consider GiftAid as the government adds at least 25% to your donation at no cost to yourself!
The clinic is run by the Bethany Sisters (who belong to the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ) and they work with patients, both children and adults, with a variety of diseases and conditions, as well as funding higher education for local teens such as those going into teaching, medicine and midwifery
For the local community in Ethiopia, the sisters provide:
- Mother and child health programs, including ante- and postnatal checkups, delivery and neonatal care
- Vaccination programmes for children
- Nutritional food for malnourished children and the poor
- Laboratory services
- Healthcare for the poor and women promotion programs in other local clinics
The Sisters have no fixed donors, and are relying exclusively on the generosity of others, often meaning that they struggle to source basic necessities for their patients and themselves
They do all of this with just 2 nurses, a lab technician, a cleaner, a helper and 3 guards assisting them, and they work in the clinic day and night every day.
By donating you will be making a real difference to the healthcare, welfare services and opportunities that the people in these communities have access to. The impact for those supported by the Sister's work is wide reaching and felt across the area- there have even been children who were put through medical school by the clinic who then returned when qualified to carry on the mission of helping the poor!
Please sponsor our runners or donate in any way you can so that we can provide this amazing cause as much as possible!
