Inn at Mazatlán Contract Violation Protest

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Adam, and my Uncle Keith and I are owners at the Inn at Mazatlán.

Keith has been an owner for almost 40 years. We have loved visiting Mazatlán, going for adventures on the road to Durango, eating at local restaurants, and making friends with locals and staff.

In 2000, the property owner of the Inn reached out to several time share owners and asked for them to pre-pay their maintenance fees so the Inn could have enough capital to finish major construction. In 2016 the new owners, Grupo ARHE, continued to honor the contracts. However, things have changed.

Earlier this year my uncle received an email notice saying that he needed to verify that his fees had been prepaid through 2039. Initially, he thought it was a scam since the Inn would already have records of his pre-paid maintenance fees. He called to verify and submitted documentation. He was then informed that the Inn would no longer honor that contract, but only give a discount on the current maintenance fees. Ends up in many ways the email was a scam after all.

As an 85-year-old war vet, this deeply affected my uncle. When I tried to explain to them that they needed to honor the contract or offer a fair amount based on the time value of money, they told me I would have to sue. They also conveniently lost my ownership paperwork and informed me that I would no longer be able to call to discuss the situation. Other owners have been treated even worse than we have.

We need your help! If our contract means nothing, then everyone’s contracts mean nothing!

We are raising funds to offset the fixed costs of a reputable Mexican real estate attorney group, Sánchez Devanny, to help us bring our case before the Federal Consumer Protection Agency. Those seeking resolution are paying $200 a piece to review their case and desired outcome with the attorney group. The money will be used for the following in order to keep costs down to only that:

$2,500 covers the fixed fee for the formal accusation to the Agency to start the ball rolling.
$2,500 covers the fixed fee for the administrative complaint, in other words preparing the case and submitting full details for consideration.

The rest of the funds will cover the ongoing costs of reconciliation between the Inn, the owners, and the agency. Any leftover will be applied to refunding owners their individual fee ($200).

Please donate and share with family, friends and social media. We hope to not only help those who have been unfairly and illegally treated by the Inn get a fair resolution, but to send the message to the Inn that contracts matter. If they can violate our contracts, they can violate anyone's. We need to stick up for each other!
