Valentin - RMM

När vi var i Odessa och spelade in videon "Utforskar världens största katakomber" träffade vi vår guide Valentin. Valentin bor i staden Odessa och har sedan 13-årsåldern haft en stor passion för att utforska stadens katakomber. När vi i RMM träffade Valentin och umgicks med honom under inspelningen, slogs vi av hans djupa kunskap om katakomberna och dess historiska bakgrund. Men även av Valentins fina personlighet, Valentin är en otroligt omtänksam person med ett stort hjärta som lyste igenom videon och fick tittarna att känna samma känslor som oss.


Efter att vi träffade Valentin i Odessa förändrades situationen i Ukraina ganska snabbt. Som vi alla vet invaderade Ryssland Ukraina i Feburari och attackerar i skrivande stund landet på fler olika platser dagligen.


Rådande situationen är fruktansvärd och vi känner för hela Ukrainas befolkning. Vi har såklart tänkt mycket på Valentin som vi kom nära under vår resa. Vi har sedan Rysslands invasion började, haft kontakt med Valentin och som tur är mår han under omständigheterna okej och staden Odessa har varit förhållandevis skonad från attacker i jämförelse med andra städer i Ukraina. Men attackerna kommer och går mot Odessa.


Valentin berättar att han och hans nära vänner har börjat rusta upp katakomberna med elektricitet, toaletter och liknande förnödenheter som behövs för att kunna ge befolkningen i Odessa ett skydd mot attackerna nere i katakomberna. Hör Valentins egna ord om situationen:



"Oh, friends... Thank you so much for worrying about me!

Our city is really lucky city. In comparison with another cities the situation here is much more better. Enemies are bombing our city with cruise missiles - yes, 9 people were killed and a lot of people were wounded, it's terrible, yes... but compared to other cities it's good...

In a few days after the beginning of the war my friends (and me, of course) started to tidying up old bomb shelters in the catacombs built in the times of Cold War. It were in terrible state - all the equipment was rusted or stolen, but we laid new cables, equipped the electricity again and organized living rooms, toilets and so on. Now we are ready to accept in the catacombs hundreds of people (I think, more than one thosand) - but what is fuckin' one thousand in million-plus city!(((

Our biggest problem - there is absolutely not enough of catacombs that are really available and suitable for housing(( We have it only in the district Moldavanka - in another districts catacombs are destroyed, closed many years ago or full of collapses and water....And for example - most part of missiles fell on southern districts of the city - and there have never been catacombs here((


But we are ready for anything and will defend the city if necessary. I'm not a courages man, I'm common coward, but I'm ready to meet the enemies not with cakes.

 
Maybe the biggest problem of me and my friends and colleagues is financial situation. Mostly we are guides, local historians, geologists - and today there is no job for us...

Very sad example: a lot of people left the city, and some of them abandoned their pets (terrible shame!!) - and the number of homeless animals is growing((( Volunteers and even nuns from the monastery are trying to care of them, but it's absolutely not enough... First weeks I also fed homeless cats, but now I have no opportunity - first of all I must to get food for my three cats((

Maybe I'm really stupid man, before this February I thought I would never see a war and I didn't expect that I would try to survive. My friends too...

But Putin decided otherwise."

Vi i RMM vill bidra med finansiellt stöd till Valentin tillsammans med er som tittar för att hjälpa Valentin och männsikorna i Ukraina i den overkliga situationen som dom befinner sig i.

 

Vi kommer att dela upp pengarna som doneras i två olika delar:

1. Hälften av pengarna doneras till Valentin för att ge finansiellt stöd till hans arbeta att bygga upp katakomberna som skyddsrum för allmänheten och för att kunna köpa in mat till hemlösa husdjur.

2. Andra hälften av pengarna doneras till Sverige för UNHCR - Hjälp Ukraina idag: https://sverigeforunhcr.se/stod-oss/gava-ukraina som bidrar med humanitär hjälp där det behövs som mest i Ukraina.
