Valerie and Andrew Louie Support Fund

It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you that Valerie lost her battle to COVID-19 on Tuesday, November 25, at 4:30 pm. Andrew received an urgent phone call from his Aunt Joyce and went to the hospital immediately. He arrived a few minutes after she passed and was assured she went peacefully.

For anyone who knew Val, she was feisty and strong and dare I say, even stubborn, and we know she did everything within her power to defeat this horrible virus but COVID-19 is relentless.  Valerie impressively fought this illness for over a month, with over 2 weeks in the ICU.

Some of the most important things anyone needs to know about Val are these:

Valerie was an incredible mom. Andrew is an impressive young man. Among other things, he is kind, gentle, and caring. Andrew and Val had a beautiful bond that any parent would hope to achieve with their child. There is no doubt in any of our minds that “Andrew” was who Val was thinking about constantly as she tried to push through this harrowing experience.

Valerie was a healthcare worker.  More importantly, Valerie chose nursing, the most selfless and giving of all the healthcare professions. Val dedicated 32 years of her life to nursing at Highland Hospital in Oakland. Her last post was as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Liaison Nurse. This is not a job for the faint of heart. Valerie was dedicated and hardworking. She had to deal with many, many challenges each day, but nurses do whatever is needed to care for our most vulnerable and Val was no exception.

Valerie was an animal welfare worker. For the last 20 years, Valerie has saved the lives of 1000’s of dogs through her volunteer work in dog rescue. As if her full time job wasn’t enough, Valerie spent hours and hours of her free time rescuing, fostering, and adopting dogs into their forever homes. She ran 1000’s of adoption events during that time period and touched the lives of many animals and humans alike.

Valerie has set up many fundraisers over the years for people and animals in their times of need. Valerie now needs us to do the same for Andrew. In addition to the inevitable bills, we also want to make sure Andrew is being supported. If Valerie has one wish, there is no doubt it is this. Andrew currently attends college and we know Val wants him to continue on his path. We can see Val beaming in the picture of her with her handsome high school graduate. She was definitely a proud mom.

Andrew is surrounded by friends and family who love him and Valerie very much. We are doing everything in our power to bring them strength and support as we grieve the loss of our Val. The goal of this Go Fund Me is to help mitigate the reality of the challenging financial situation that lies ahead and reduce the stress that comes with it.

Whatever you can give is greatly appreciated. Please keep Andrew in your thoughts and send him strength. On behalf of Andrew and Valerie’s family and friends, thank you so much for your support.
