Early Saturday morning, my cousin April, Valerie’s younger sister reached out to me. The day before, Friday my cousin Valerie’s worst fear became a reality. After hearing the story I knew I just had to do something. You see my cousin Valerie was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer In April of 2014 at the young age of 35. I myself was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. As most of you know cancer has not been kind to our family. It does not discriminate! This last July for Valerie’s annual check up she was given a clean bill of heath from her oncologist, the moment of celebrating her 5 year mark cancer free was very short lived, you see early August Valerie detected a lump, yes a lump that was not there a few weeks before. Stressed out fearing the worst and a battery of many tests in a short amount of time revealed her cancer had returned. Every cancer survivors worst fear is now her reality.
Valerie has faced many hardships throughout her last 20 years. Valerie’s dad, my first cousin Dennis went in for a routine knee surgery and never left the hospital, at the young age of 21 she lost her world when Dennis passed away due to complications from surgery. Through this time my Uncle Johnny and Aunt Jennie lost 3 of 5 sons in a 4 year period, life was tough. Valerie has 3 children, Destiny 20, Richard 16 and her baby girl Amberlynn 11. Valerie is a single mom who has worked tirelessly to provide for her family. After a many year very abusive relationship she was thankfully able to get out of this relationship and start healing and trying to deal with the aftermath of having cancer and all the emotional things that come from that, she was bouncing back and restarting her life working hard to provide for her two kids still under the age of 18. I was able to meet with Valerie today along with her sister and her mom. Valerie has a long road ahead and at this time has had to stop working to be able to focus on herself and start to get better. Chemo and surgery are in the very near future and Valerie needs to be able to focus on her battle ahead. Thankfully Valerie has a good support system and I have personally taken on a role to be by her side through it all. I am asking please to find it in your heart to help my cousin out in her time of need. Any donation will help and I don’t take asking for donations lightly but in this case it’s something I feel is necessary and we want Valerie to completely focus on getting better. Her fight has just begun, she’s a beautiful soul and a great mother to her children that need her, we all need her. I will keep regular updates as to what’s going on with Valerie for those who wish to follow her story. If all you can give is prayers, please pray for her to have the strength to fight this battle again for the second time. She faces a long road ahead. Please share! Let’s get her story out there, we need her to get well Again any amount you feel you can afford will be helpful. Share, share share. I thank you all in advance and all donations received will go directly to Valerie for medical expenses, living expenses and helping with her son who plays Varsity baseball at Monzano High school.
