Aminul Islam Shama is a leader of the "Garment Workers Trade Union" in Bangladesh.
As a organizing secretary, he is a devoted activist for the rights of garment workers in Bangladesh, especially in Dhaka. He is fighting for better work conditions especially at current times when corona virus is spreading in the factories that produced our daily clothing.
Some of his latest efforts are shared in the links below:
Dignity For Garment Workers
Protection Against Corona Virus
Working Conditions During Corona Crisis
Aminul Islam Shama is in desperate need of a critical heart surgery, replacing two valves in his pacemaker. To guarantee a proper surgery, Shama needs to provide several blood reserves, which have to be tested for corona beforehand.
The current situation in Dhaka makes it extremely difficult to receive medical treatment. Due to the swift help of Taslima Akhter and Dr Prasanta Kumar Chanda an appointment for the surgery has been scheduled for the 2nd of June. The 5.378 € for surgery have to be guaranteed until 28th of May.
As each and every worker is in a serious economic crisis due to missing salary payments - the money cannot be raised by the local community.
This is where I need each and every one of you to support an outstanding personality and ray of hope for the people the produce our clothing and fashion under extremely difficult conditions.
What is my relationship to Aminul Islam Shama ?
Doing this in the name of my father Axel Schütz (you know... technology ;).
He is a teacher at the local High School in Germany where he is raising awareness about the (unfaire) supply chains of the fashion industry. His students have founded a fair fashion label to support sustainable clothing made in faire working conditions. The High School has a very close connection to the garment worker community and Taslima Akhter. She has reached out directly to Axel for help.
