Van droom naar documentaire: op weg naar Gambia - Help ons!

Beste lezer,

Het maken van een betekenisvolle documentaire is onze grote droom. Wij zijn Ilse en Carmen, twee Creative Business-studenten, en dit semester maken we onze droom waar, met in de hoofdrol: Ida, een powervrouw uit Gambia! Wij willen haar graag een podium geven.

Ida (nu 29 jaar) groeide op in armoede. Zonder geld voor een opleiding werkte ze als kamermeisje en zorgde ze voor het zoontje van haar overleden zus. In 2018 ontmoette ze het Nederlandse koppel Tom en Mariëtte, die haar later hielpen een kappersopleiding te volgen en een beautysalon te openen. Ondanks vele tegenslagen, waaronder de pandemie, het verlies van haar baan en een verhoogde huur, blijft Ida vechten voor een betere toekomst. Nu staat ze voor een nieuwe uitdaging: ze is zwanger en staat er alleen voor, maar haar positieve instelling en doorzettingsvermogen geven hoop.

Wij zitten in het laatste jaar van onze opleiding, Creative Business. Deze opleiding heeft ons breed opgeleid op gebied van journalistiek, marketing, graphic design, storytelling, psychologie, communicatie, fotografie, film maken en editing. Met onze kennis vanuit verschillende specialisaties - audiovisuele media en educatieve media - vormen wij het perfecte duo voor dit project.

Wij willen Ida's inspirerende verhaal vastleggen, maar hebben hulp nodig. De projectkosten – vlucht, verblijf, apparatuur, vaccinaties, verzekeringen, etc. – zijn voor eigen rekening. Als studenten kunnen we dit niet alleen bekostigen. Daarom vragen we om een kleine bijdrage via deze crowdfunding, zodat we dit bijzondere verhaal zo mooi mogelijk kunnen vertellen. We hopen daarmee ook Ida en haar ongeboren baby verder te kunnen ondersteunen.

From Dream to Documentary: On Our Way to Gambia – Help Us!

Dear Reader,

Creating a meaningful documentary is our greatest dream. We are Ilse and Carmen, two Creative Business students, and this semester we are making our dream come true, featuring Ida, a powerful woman from Gambia! We want to give her a platform to share her story.

Ida (now 29) grew up in poverty. With no money for education, she worked as a hotel maid and took care of the son of her sister who passed away. In 2018, she met a Dutch couple, Tom and Mariëtte, who later helped her pursue a hairdressing course and open a beauty salon. Despite many setbacks—such as the pandemic, losing her job, and increased rent—Ida continues to fight for a better future. Now, she faces a new challenge: she’s pregnant and on her own, but her positive attitude and resilience offer hope.

We’re in the final year of our Creative Business degree, where we’ve gained skills in journalism, marketing, graphic design, storytelling, psychology, communication, photography, filmmaking, and editing. With our expertise in audiovisual media and educational media, we make the perfect team for this project.

We want to capture Ida's inspiring story, but we need help. The project costs—flight, accommodation, equipment, vaccinations, insurance, etc.—are all self-funded, and as students, we can’t cover this alone. That’s why we’re asking for a small contribution through this crowdfunding campaign, so we can tell this empowering story in the best way possible. We also hope to further support Ida and her unborn baby.
