Vanbrook Equestrian EHV1 Virus Relief

Donation protected

We are sad to announce that we have been dealing with an outbreak of EHV-1 at Vanbrook farm. We have had 3 horses turn neurological and have passed away. A few more have also tested positive and they are being quarantined and heavily monitored. We are doing everything we can to help keep the horses safe and healthy.

WHAT WE ARE DOING:

·   We have had a wonderful group of people volunteer to help scrub and sanitize every inch of the barn and stalls with antiseptic and disinfectants.

·  We have notified everyone who may have come into contact with us, our farm or any of the infected horses and the farm is under a voluntary quarantine.

·  Horses temperatures are being checked regularly and biosecurity protocols have been implemented.

· There is ongoing consultation and regular communication with specialists and veterinarians and their  recommendations are being strictly followed.

·  The horses have been receiving 24/7 care and routine checks.

HOW TO HELP?

This unexpected virus and the attributed costs has truly emphasized the impact and financial loss due to COVID-19.  We have gone through a great deal of cleaning supplies and materials to sanitize the barn thoroughly and have incurred significant costs for the onsite vet. Each test swab costs $150 and treatment is $600-$800 per horse, depending on size. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine for the neurological mutation of EHV-1 but there is a treatment.

With heavy hearts, we are asking for your help by donation to ensure the horses receive their tests and the best care possible during this extremely difficult time. Your contribution will go towards preventative measures and ongoing horse care.

Your help is greatly appreciated from Vanbrook.

MORE INFORMATION:

EHV-1 can cause neurological issues, respiratory disease and abortion in pregnant mares. It is severely contagious and spread by direct horse to horse contact via the respiratory tract through nasal secretions and contaminated objects including feed and water buckets. It can survive for up to 7 days and can result in the horse passing.
