Vanessa N. Munoz was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in 2012 and has been treated by her local oncologist. She is a loving single mother of two, Harmony (11) and Trae (9). A recent difficult bone marrow biopsy revealed her CML is now at the accelerated phase. Therefore, her oncologist has referred her to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, to explore the best treatment options available.
During her courageous battle with cancer, Vanessa persevered despite the obstacles and accomplished her goals of graduating from college and gaining employment as a physical therapist assistant. Equipped with her certification, she has devoted nearly 3 years of her life caring for others as a therapist assistant, while having significant physical challenges of her own.
With this devastating diagnosis comes many additional expenses, such as travel, an extended hospital stay, treatments, and living expenses for her children. Although insurance helps, there are expenses that are not covered. Her mother, Eunice, will accompany her to Houston this coming Monday and will give us updates as they become available. Our goal is to raise funds to lessen the enormous financial impact they are facing. This will allow Vanessa and her family to focus on her treatment.
We apologize if you are just learning of Vanessa’s cancer through this fundraiser, things have been moving extremely fast. It is understandable if you have questions about details and what the future holds. Vanessa is known and loved by many and we were unable to reach out to everyone personally. We will certainly keep you updated, or you are welcome to contact one of us.
We know these are difficult times for all of us - financially, spiritually, and emotionally. It is always hard to ask for help, especially when so many of our friends and family members are also in need during these challenging times. Thank you to all the people who have already been on this journey with us. Your support, whatever the amount, is helpful, deeply appreciated and urgently needed during this time. Please continue to keep Vanessa and her family in your prayers.
