Flood Relief for Van Buren, MO
My hometown, Van Buren, MO, is underwater. I've been watching the photos come in on Facebook all day. Almsot everyone that I know who lived in the town lost everything they own today. Most people didn't have flood insurance because they lived so far above the maximum level that flooding had ever reached before. That level was 33 feet above normal, and now it's at 44 and rising. I'm starting this page to raise money to donate to the people of the town to help them start rebuilding. $100,000 won't even come close to replacing what they've lost, but it's a start. If you have anything, even a dollar or two, any amount will help. Thanks and God bless.
UPDATE: Some in the comments have rightly pointed out concerns about the way this money will be used. Presently I'm trying to get in touch with community organizers in Van Buren so we can determine the best way to utilize the funds. The phones are still down so I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone yet, but once I do, I'll post that information. If you are in doubt, please donate where you feel comfortable. This is just my way of reaching out to my network. Those who know me know they can trust me and I don't blame those who don't for feeling suspicious. I know plenty of bad people will take advantage of a bad situation to make some money.
