Establishing the Valerie A. Bullock Memorial Fund

Donation protected

Valerie A. Bullock passed away on July 2, 2022. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Valerie dedicated herself to serving God, her family, her friends, and her community.

Valerie worked as a social worker for nearly 40 years in Pemberton Township, New Jersey and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. About 15 years into her career, the Pemberton Township municipal government was reorganized. As a result, Valerie, then director of welfare, assumed responsibility for the senior center in addition to her other duties. While she felt unprepared for this new assignment, she threw herself into the challenge and discovered a new passion, working with senior citizens. Upon moving to Pittsburgh in 2001, Valerie continued to pursue this passion as a service coordinator and activity coordinator for the Lemington Residential Corporation and the Allegheny Housing Rehabilitation Corporation (AHRCO) in facilities such as the Lemington Senior Center, Eva P. Mitchell Residence, and, most recently, Bellefield Dwellings. Valerie saw her work as a calling to serve and always went above and beyond to help. She brought creativity, dedication, humor, and a smile to all she did and set an unmatched standard of service.

Valerie's most extended work assignment was at the Eva P. Mitchell Residence, and the residents there held a special place in her heart. While her primary responsibility was to secure support services for the residents, she also implemented a complete social and educational program. She taught exercise classes and shared her love of cardmaking in her famed card classes. Valerie brought special touches to holidays and other special occasions and often funded these efforts from her pocket.

Valerie believed that every senior citizen, regardless of income, family support, or other life circumstances, deserved to age with dignity and to live a full life.

Although our loss breaks our hearts, we, Valerie Bullock's children, can think of no better way to honor our mother than by establishing the Valerie A. Bullock Memorial Fund. The monies will be used to support the Eva P. Mitchell staff to provide some extra touches for residents that our mother would provide from her own pocket. Your donations will be used to establish this fund in perpetuity.
