Help My Parents Rebuild After Losing Everything in Fire
Update 2: we managed to find a memento of Christine’s lost son. It’s broken and charred, but it is found.
Update 1: we have found out the insurance does cover to replace the RV. However, the personal property is not covered.
On April 22nd at around 2:30 PM, my father and stepmother experienced a life-changing tragedy. You may have seen coverage on WLWT about the fire at Indian Springs Campground in North Bend, OH. What you may not have known—it was their RV and car that caught fire.
Their RV was their only home. In a matter of minutes, it and everything inside it was destroyed. Their car, parked next to it, was also lost in the blaze. They escaped with only the clothes they were wearing.
We’ve since learned that while the car and RV was insured, all of their personal belongings were not. There will be no insurance help to replace their personal belongings.
Who They Are
My father, Charles Adams, is a disabled U.S. Marine Corps veteran. My stepmother, Christine Adams, is a traveling nurse who’s spent her career caring for others. They’re quiet, humble, and kind people who never asked for much and have always appreciated the simple things.
They had made a home for themselves at Indian Springs Campground—but after this trauma, they’ve made it clear: they cannot go back to living in a camper. They need a stable, permanent place to rebuild and heal.
What Was Lost
The fire took everything:
Their beloved pets, Calli the cat and Hachi the dog, didn’t make it out.
Christine lost every memento of her son, who passed away in 2021.
All personal belongings—clothing, IDs, tools, and work equipment—were destroyed.
Their phones were also lost, and since they don’t use social media, we don’t have any photos to share right now. Once we’re able to replace their phones and recover their photo backups, I’ll be updating this page with pictures of Calli and Hachi, so you can see just how beautiful and special they were. I plan on doing this today.
Where They Are Now
Thanks to the American Red Cross, they were given some basic supplies and hotel support for a few nights. We’re incredibly grateful for that kindness.
But now they’re facing a terrifying reality: no home, no possessions, no car to travel for her work, and no plan—unless we build one for them. We’re working as fast as we can to find them an apartment or rental home where they can begin again, but we need help to get there.
Why We’re Raising $10,000
This goal reflects what it will take to help them start over:
Security deposit and rent for a new place
Furniture and household essentials
Clothing, food, toiletries
Work (nursing clothes) for Christine
Transportation assistance - short term we're getting a rental through insurance, and hoping the car payout happens before the rental coverage lapses
Memorial items to honor their pets, whom were like children to them
They don’t need extravagance—they need stability, dignity, and support.
Why We're Asking for Help
My brother, Sean Adams, and I are organizing this GoFundMe because we’ve realized this is too big for our family to face alone. We’re doing all we can, but we need help—whether it’s through a donation, a share, or simply spreading the word.
This is about rebuilding—not just a home, but hope.
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Whether you can donate or not, just sharing this helps more than you know. Every kind word, every gesture of support—it all matters.
From our family to yours,
Charles & Sean Adams
