My name is Lisa Hathorn. I am a wife to Jeff and mother to our beautiful daughter Payton. In October of 2018, I was having pain in my breast and felt a lump. I then decided to go to my doctor thinking it was a cyst and no worries. It has been a whirlwind since then of tests, surgery and more tests.
When I met with my oncologist, I first received the diagnosis of Stage 0/1 of DCIS breast cancer**. Then a couple months later after a left mastectomy and a Sentinel node biopsy**, my diagnosis has jumped to Stage 3c breast cancer.
My treatment plan will involve five months of chemo with two different medicines. After completing that, I will have six weeks, possibly more, of radiation. Today my port was placed that will administer the chemotherapy medications.
We are asking for prayer and help with medical bills, insurance premiums and living expenses that will be accumulating over the next year.
**Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive cancer where abnormal cells have been found in the lining of the breast milk duct. ... Ductal Carcinoma in Situ is very early cancer that is highly treatable, but if it's left untreated or undetected, it can spread into the surrounding breast tissue.
** Sentinel node biopsy is a surgical procedure used to determine whether cancer has spread beyond a primary tumor into your lymphatic system. It's used most commonly in evaluating breast cancer and melanoma. The sentinel nodes are the first few lymph nodes into which a tumor drains
