HELP GET OXYGEN TO VILLAGES IN INDIA RAVAGED BY COVID-19!
As our country is slowly beginning to look normal again, India is experiencing the devastating effects of COVID-19. I see images of unmasked gatherings around the United States, only to be overwhelmed by the number of innocent people dying every day in the country I consider to be my first home. I have family members who are constantly exposed to this virus, watching their neighbors and closest friends pass away. I’m in a state of constant fear for my grandparents, who raised me with all of their hearts, not knowing whether they could get a life-threatening illness from the people in the village they’ve called their home for their entire lives. People are fighting for oxygen tanks, but in reality, they’re fighting for the ability to breathe. The allocation of oxygen tanks has a primary focus on cosmopolitan cities, which isolates the villagers who are seeing the ravaging effects of the Pandemic without any support. I would like to ensure that every penny collected will reach the villages where people are struggling to a higher extent.
WHY THIS FUNDRAISER IS IMPORTANT TO ME
My name is Arya Hanumara, an 11th grader at Francis Parker High School. I’ve always been very proud of my Indian heritage, my summers consisting of visits to my grandparents in Andhra Pradesh. India has always felt magical, having this electric energy that nowhere else, especially in the United States, could rival. I had the incredible opportunity to travel alone to India in the summer of 2018. I volunteered at the Shaman School, which is dedicated to educating children in the slums of Visakhapatnam, fostering my love of community engagement. I was inspired to create my 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Live For Laughter combining this love of giving back with my passion for performing and theatre. I was teaching online acting classes via Zoom to children in Visakhapatnam throughout the Pandemic, soon realizing that the conditions in India were quickly increasing in severity. Almost every child had a family member or knew a friend impacted by COVID-19. My heart broke for the kids I was teaching. It seemed as if all of them felt the need to grow up faster, my acting exercises becoming the least of their worries. I knew that I would never forgive myself if I didn’t do as much as try to help my students out. On this page, I would like to raise money for oxygen tanks to be purchased and shipped over to remote villages like Nuzvid and Mudinepalli. These are the towns of my grandparents, and through this, I am hopefully doing the best I can to help the members of what I call my first home out. With more donations, we will ship Oxygen tanks to more villages, aiming to help many more people in need. Please consider donating to this page or spreading the word.
