Prevent Eviction for Young, Single, Black Mother of Three
Donation protected
Hi friends, I'm raising funds for a 26 year-old, single mother of three, Delilah, experiencing housing, job, and food insecurity in North Carolina. Her children are ages 6, 2, and 1, and Delilah is the only person supporting them. She has no support network or family and, as a Black woman in Southern Appalachia, has had to navigate with anti-Black racism on top of the rest.
I won't sugar-coat it. Becoming a mother at 20 is overwhelming in the best of circumstances, and Delilah's situation was dire from the beginning. After losing her contract position and another job after her car caught fire, she has been desperately trying to manage both her children's needs and her need to financially support herself and her family. She used her existing savings to buy another car as cheaply as possible, which almost immediately broke down. She is living less than paycheck to paycheck, caught in the perpetual revolving door of poverty , and as a result she has been evicted from several homes. Delilah has been able to maintain her current home through the kindness of donations, which is how we met her.
Delilah's hope is to use these funds to catch up on rent payments, dig herself out of debt, and pay future bills so she can have some financial breathing room to find a better job. Most of all, she wants to have the ability to provide her children the peace and stability every child deserves. Money is tight for everyone, but anything helps.
I know how it feels to be at the mercy of others' generosity. I'm humbly asking my community to do what they hope others would do for them if they were in this position. The world wants to separate us, but I believe we can change the course - one small act of kindness and support at a time. Thank you all so much, much love and peace to you.
