Vegan Delicatessen and Bakery

Hi everyone!  We are here today to introduce an exciting new project … It’s a vegan food truck!! We’ve been trying to figure out what kind of food we wanted to have for over a year now, leaning towards some kind of comfort food. In May I traveled to Berkeley California for the Animal Liberation Conference ( which was moving and  inspiring in SO many ways) Some friends took me to The butcher’s Son, a vegan delicatessen and bakery , that was it!! I immediately knew this is the kind of food that we would bring to Wilmington NC and surrounding areas!!  I went back two more times, sending pictures of their food back to Daniel and the kids each time. Before even saying anything to him, he texted “we have to have that here”! We can’t wait to start making our homemade deli meats, cheeses, and sauces!! We have two super innovative women coming on board whose recipes are out of this world.  Our aim is to dispel the notion that vegan food can’t be delicious or have the same tastes and texture that we’re used to.  We would also like to partner with local nonprofits, once a week, to bring a “pay what you can” format to neighborhoods that lack nutritious food.  The food truck will act as a hub for vegan outreach, educational resources, and social justice organizing. 

Currently we have a fully functioning 40 foot long blue bird school bus that has had the interior seats removed.  This initial GoFundMe will go toward the cost of kitchen equipment, plumbing, and electrical.  Also, the school bus will be powered entirely with solar power. We hope to have a community event where artists lead us in painting the bus graffiti style!! The back of the bus will feature a mural of a woman pulling open a cage door and birds flying out, which was inspired by one of my favorite Glass Walls videos.
