Vehicle for the Holman Family
Donation protected
My name is Shauna Holman. Four years ago come March 2019 will be the 4 yr. anniversary of when my brother took his own life. He left behind 5 children (3 different moms). We recently found out that his two of those kids, daughters ages 15 and 8 (Malayna & Autumn) were in a precarious situation. Their mother has been in jail for the past 5 months and the girls have been staying with her sister, their Aunt. However she is no longer able to keep them with her and having no other family members that can take them they would go into a shelter and eventually to foster care. There was no way we could let that happen and will be taking them in this month, they will live with us indefinitely or until mom is released and can provide a healthy environment for the girls. My husband and I have 2 boys still at home ages 16 and 14 (Tim & Dylan), we live in a 2 bedroom townhome in Smithville. The girls were in Park Hill schools but will now have to move not only homes but also schools. Their lives have been disrupted too much in recent years and months and we want to do everything we can to give them stability and safety. We want them to know they are loved and wanted and that they can rely on us and they won’t be uprooted again. We are blessed with sons that understand how scary this must be for these girls. Our boys haven’t batted an eye about this, they are giving up their room so they can have a space of their own in the house. We are so proud of them and their kind hearts. It is going to be cramped but we will figure it out. We will just pack a lot of love into that small space. The biggest issue we have is that we only have one vehicle my husband and I ride to work together I drop him off downtown and go onto my office off State line on Missouri side, with traffic it is a 45-60 minute drive each way. We have a Nissan Versa that barely fits 5 people much less all 6 of us when we need to go somewhere together. Then once you add in the inevitable added doctor appointments or sick days with two more kids and the logistics of making sure we both get to and from work and home on those days…only having one vehicle will prove to be a huge obstacle. We do have an old clunker that has been sitting because we haven’t had the funds to get it running but honestly we aren’t sure if it’s worth saving. So we are really in need of a safe running vehicle that can seat a family of 6, nothing fancy just something reliable to get from A to B. OR the other one up and properly running and we can split into the two cars when we all need to go somewhere. We know there are those far worse off than us but if there is anything you can do to help us help these girls we would greatly appreciate it. Merry Christmas and Bless You for all those you are able to help!
