Velarde's Fruteria Recovery Fund for Owner Attack

On Friday, March 18th, around noontime owner of Velarde’s Fruits located on Cesar Chavez and Chicago in Boyle Heights, Mr. Modesto Navarro, was attacked by a homeless man who walked into the business and started harassing customers. Mr. Navarro asked the man to leave; the man then grabbed a metal napkin dispenser from one of the tables and exited the restaurant. Mr. Navarro then headed to the restaurant entrance to make sure the man had left; this is when Mr. Navarro was attacked viciously by the man. The metal tissue dispenser was thrown full force at his face causing severe damage, a broken nose, and two black eyes.

Mr. Modesto Navarro has worked at Velarde’s Fruits for over 25 years. Mr. Navarro is a pillar of our Community; his strong work ethic and commitment to Boyle Heights are unquestionable. He treats his customers like family and is always happy to welcome all to his restaurant. Velarde's Fruits serves Boyle Heights families delicious homemade Mexican food and nutritious juices to keep our community strong and healthy.

 

I am a customer & started this page for Mr. Modesto to help him with medical expenses and install a camera security system at his business for safety. Anything helps, and we look forward to our loving Boyle Heights Community to show our Mom and Pop business love and support.
