Velia Cernota

Velia Cernota was a very valuable asset of the San Antonio Police Officers Association for 31 years. She was our "Specialist" when it came to handling our medical needs. She was our "Mike Tyson" when it came to doing battle with the insurance companies, hospitals and Doctors. You were thankful that she was in your corner in your time of need. She was the one who fought for all the officers and their families when we had medical issues. Velia was released from the Association under very suspicious circumstances with the Executive Board claiming she retired. Velia says differently! What type of person VOLUNTARILY retires and then needs to be escorted out of the offices without having the opportunity to gather her belongings. If Velia had "Retired" there would have been a celebration, a BBQ or at the very least  an announcement in the bulletin praising her 30 years of dedicated service to officers past and present. Instead she was ushered out and humiliated in front of her co-workers. My brothers and sisters, past and present, instead of fighting the members of our SAPOA Executive Board, I am applying my energies to helping Velia and trying to make her situation better. It is now time for us to come to her aid. This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate our love, compassion and thankfulness for her years of dedicated service to San Antonio's Police Officers.
