Emergency vendor support fund

Tax deductible
San Francisco and Alameda Counties have ordered their residents to shelter in place. This will have a disproportionate impact on the people who sell Street Sheet and Street Spirit, who rely on foot traffic to sell newspapers. As cafes, theaters, and restaurants close, the people who sell our papers will lose the bulk of their clientele. As a result, vendors who are able to have already begun sheltering in place.

Citizens of our community, street newspaper vendors are worried about their own health and the health of others. As they isolate themselves in motels, RVs, shelters, and subsidized housing, they are losing out on much needed financial support. Meanwhile, as information about this virus develops, we may be forced to temporarily cease publication altogether.

This could have a devastating impact. Together, our papers support about 400 homeless and housing insecure vendors. For many, selling papers is a lifeline: they spend what they earn on survival needs such food, water, medicine, storage units, and gas for RVs. We are hoping to replace a fraction of this lost income with donations. If you are able to donate, your money will go a long way. Donations are tax deductible.

We are also accepting donations of gift cards. If you have a gift card to donate, you can send it in the mail to the Coalition on Homelessness in San Francisco, or Youth Spirit Artworks in Berkeley.
