Help Venezuelan complete last year of college

Hello, my name is Grecia Pacheco, and I am a proud Venezuelan. In 2017, I escaped the political crisis in Venezuela and sought asylum in the United States. The dire situation in my home country, marked by censorship and misinformation, inspired me to pursue a career as a political journalist with a focus on international relations. Since then, I have fought to become a transformative force rather than just a victim of a dictatorship. My goal is to help people by providing them with truthful information and giving them a voice, while I continue to study and prepare myself for this task.

My Journey:

Since arriving in the United States specifically Miami, Florida, I have worked tirelessly to support my studies and make my dream a reality, all while supporting my parents here in the U.S. and relatives who still live in Venezuela. When I started my studies, I set a goal to excel in everything I pursued. I graduated with honors from my associate degree program and then transferred to a larger university with an excellent journalism program to enhance my skills. Since then, I have received recognition from most of my professors for my hard work and dedication to this field, including working for my university’s news site and contributing to other local media outlets. In the summer of 2024, the Florida Press Association recognized my hard work and dedication to the industry.

After years of effort, I am now nearing the completion of my degree, a milestone that fills me with immense pride and hope. However, to finish my academic journey, I need to complete a final project. Fortunately, I was one of three students chosen to be a reporter for my university in Washington, D.C., to cover the presidential elections, which will serve as my final project. This opportunity will open many doors in my career and significantly enhance my experience.

The Challenge:

As an asylum seeker and TPS holder, my immigration status is complex in terms of federal assistance, unlike the support my fellow classmates receive. In other words, I am neither an illegal immigrant nor a U.S. citizen. Unfortunately, this status has made it impossible for me to apply for federal scholarships or stipends that could cover the costs of my trip to Washington, D.C., and my living expenses there.

Why I Need Your Help:

I am reaching out to you for support in covering the expenses for my three-month stay in Washington, D.C. This includes rent, moving costs, food, class credits, and other basic necessities. Your contribution will not only help me complete my studies but also allow me to fulfill a dream that I never thought possible back in Venezuela.

How You Can Help:

Any amount you can contribute will make a significant difference. Your generosity will help me achieve my goal of becoming a political journalist and continue my mission to provide truthful information and give a voice to those who need it most.

Thank you for your support and belief in my dream.
