Helping Dogs in Venezuela
My name is Carlos Lacruz, founder of Animal Shelter Crisis Aid, a non-profit dedicated to help animal shelters recover from crises and natural disasters. My family and I are dog rescue volunteers and foster parents in Springfield, Virginia. We are raising money for Fundación Esperanza Animal, a dog sanctuary for abandoned or injured dogs from the streets of Caracas, Venezuela.
Fundación Esperanza Animal cares for dogs of any breed, age, or physical condition. Most dogs are perfectly healthy, and some dogs are blind, burnt, or disabled. The only thing these dogs have in common is that they are all cared for with love and respect.
We are raising money because the sanctuary’s founder is currently caring alone for 232 dogs (I am withholding her name for security reasons.) Caring alone for so many dogs was never the plan. Unfortunately, the Venezuelan political, economic and security crises have ruined everything. Security concerns make it very dangerous to accept physical help from strangers. Acute food shortages keep vetted volunteers away in food lines. Donations are scarce while hyperinflation has drained all funds. Venezuelans are abandoning their pets as they leave the country in record numbers. Some have left their dogs tied up to the sanctuary’s gate.
It breaks our hearts to think what is going on and that the dogs might go hungry or worse. We set up this GoFundMe page to help care for the dogs at the Fundación Esperanza Animal sanctuary. Please donate what you can, any amount helps. Your donations are tax deductible and will be used to provide food and water.
Thank you.
Carlos Lacruz and all of us at Animal Shelter Crisis Aid.
