Ventura Police K9 Unit- Vest for K9 Deco

Donation protected
The Ventura Police K9 Unit is funded solely through community donations; the funds raised by our K9 Unit help pay for our canines, their training, and medical bills. All of our canines, past and present, have been paid for through the generosity of the National Police Dog Foundation, local businesses, and individuals. The cost of a canine can range from $12,000-$13,000, not including training and certification, which can be upwards of an additional $12,000-$16,000.

Officer Sean Portillo and K9 Deco are the Ventura Police Department’s newest K9 team. Deco was purchased through a generous donation from Jewelry Couture and named after their in-house brand: DECOage. On February 5, 2020, K9 Deco passed P.O.S.T. (Police Officer Standards Training) test. They are now officially certified in the state of California as a K9 Team and are ready to get out on patrol. Deco has two more training cadres to get through before he is fully trained. Deco and Officer Portillo will go through this training over the next year.

To get K9 Deco out and serving our community, we need your help! Deco is our largest canine at eighteen months. Deco is 98lbs to date, and the bullet-proof vests we have in stock do not fit his large stature. A new bullet-proof vest costs close to $3,000 and is necessary for keeping our animals safe. We are asking our community to consider donating towards the purchase of a new bullet-proof vest for Deco to keep him safe as he serves the community. We thank you all for the continued support.
