Vermont Swim Club!

Every kid deserves a chance to swim! That’s why we, the parents of swimmers at the former Green Mountain Aquatics, are forming a completely new team to support youth swimming in Vermont.

In late August the families of Green Mountain Aquatics were informed that a former administrator (now resigned) had poorly managed the finances of the club and therefore the team was terminated, along with access to the pool at Saint Michael’s College.

It was devastating and shocking for the athletes and their families. High school students were working hard to use swimming as a way to get into college. Older competitors were gearing up to be captains. And dozens of kids—through no fault of their own—were all of sudden told that they no longer had a team, or a pool, to call home.

But the parents are rallying to support our student athletes with the creation of a new team! It’s not fair for the kids to suffer because of mistakes someone else made—they deserve a chance to swim and train and compete as a team.

We always tell our student athletes to work hard and never give up—and now we have the chance to pull together and show them what that looks like! With positivity, perseverance and the support of our friends, family, and youth-sports lovers all over, we can get these kids back in the water doing what they love.

This swim team means so much more than just the competitions. Swimmers perform community service; they offer swim lessons to young kids; staff pools and beaches around our area as lifeguards, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. There isn’t any other option for children in Northern and Central Vermont that can’t afford to travel for competition; our swimmers need a club at Saint Mike’s!

The kids are ready—the season was supposed to start in early September—it’s up to us to get them back in the water developing their minds, bodies, leadership skills, and work ethic. Let’s not let them down!
