Help Veronica Ascencio & Family with Medical Bills

Thank you for visiting our page. I am organizing this fundraiser for Veronica Ascencio and her family after learning about Veronica's devastating series of strokes that have left her partially paralyzed and unable to speak. Veronica and her family used to come at night to clean my old clinic building- this was after they had worked all day. When I used to stay late at work, I got the chance to get to know her, and we bonded. She worked tirelessly and yet was always sweet and happy. She would bring me and other staff homemade tortillas to take home, which she said were made with love. We talked about getting together sometime to hang out as friends, but there was never time because she worked so much. When Veronica's husband texted me recently to let me know about her strokes, I was extremely concerned. I knew that Veronica did not have insurance and that she and her whole family had already worked so hard to make a living. I immediately thought of doing a fundraiser for them to help them out during this very challenging time. Thank you in advance for helping this wonderful family. Lena Crandell
The words below are from Veronica's daughter Areisy:
My mother was an active and energetic person who loved cooking and cleaning and always had a smile on her face. But all that came to an end on September 12th, 2022. My mother was rushed to the emergency room due to a devastating stroke. That day I thought I would lose my mother and best friend. It impacted our family a lot, especially our very close loved ones. Still today, we are dealing with emotions but are grateful she’s still here and fighting to recover. Doctors informed us that she had been having minor strokes within the past two years and was surprised her body was keeping up. They also had to do a lumber puncture to see if she has MS, and they are still trying to figure out if she has Moyamoya. After being in the hospital, she had a second stroke, leaving her unable to speak and with paralysis of the entire right side of her body. Since my mom doesn’t have insurance, she was put in a three-month program called “Charity Care,” but afterward, she won’t be covered anymore. She will lose the benefits of having physical, occupational, and speech therapists to help her recover. My dad had been the only one working and providing income for the family, but now he’s not working since he’s taking care of my mother full-time. Unfortunately, the program my mom was enrolled in doesn’t cover her medication and insulin. Anything you wish to help would make a difference, and we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you!
