On Saturday, October 21, Veronica Lundell was removing one of the beautiful banners hanging from the Nye Beach light poles when her ladder gave way and she fell. She sustained a severe concussion with minor skull fractures, and was airlifted to the hospital in Corvallis where she is recovering. The good news is she regained consciousness quickly, is healing well, her spirits are good, and the long-term prognosis is mostly positive. She is scheduled to be transported via ambulance to a physical rehab center in Salem in the next few days, where she will undergo around 2 weeks of physical/occupational therapy before being released home, where she will likely need additional support. The not so good news is surprise, surprise, it turns out most insurance doesn’t cover inpatient rehab, and there is a hefty price tag associated with the airlift to the hospital, her week-long stay there, along with outpatient support and follow ups once she gets home. Veronica is the proprietor of Jovi in Nye Beach, known in the community as an incredibly generous and skilled volunteer, and a civically engaged community member, and passionate supporter of the arts. The Nye Beach Banner Project and the auction that raises thousands of dollars that fund arts projects for youth is Veronica’s brainchild. She gives countless hours of her time and expertise toward the betterment of Newport every year. Her friends and family are confident that the community she has contributed to for decades will return the favor by contributing what you can to support her complete recovery, and return to the community she loves.
