Versions: Black Lives Matter Fundraiser

Donation protected
Dear Versions Community,

It has been hard for many of us to put into words our reactions, our passion, and our feelings about the injustice and suffering that has been happening in our world this week. To stay silent is to be complicit in these human rights violations and crimes taking place.

Black Lives Matter! Black Voices Matter! Black Art Matters! And we need to stand in solidarity with the fight against systemic racism, white supremacy, and the historic oppression that the Black community faces every single day.

After many consultations, much deliberation and thought from our core team, we have decided that we want to use our platform, which has historically been a safe space for our community to come together and celebrate with their children, parents, and friends every week, to support and promote a local charity organization that works tirelessly 365 days a year to advocate and bring justices for those affected by anti-black violence right here in Alberta.

On top of this, this organization assists young people directly through meaningful arts programming and mentorship, to help build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem so these youth can develop the skills they need to face the world and activate in their own communities!

In solidarity with #blackouttuesday, our Tuesday, June 2 edition of Versions, But on the internet, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 3 from 6:00-10:00PM and we will dedicate this week's edition to fundraising for the SANKOFA Artist & Music Foundation in Calgary. Your donations will directly benefit programs and movements activating within Calgary right now! It's time to take action, let us act together in solidarity and take the steps necessary to listen and learn from this experience.

We need more black voices and artists in our electronic music community in Alberta and we need to support the ones we have. We need to do our part to elevate and propel these voices and ensure they have a space in our DJ booths, on our dance floors, and in our cultural history right now, ALWAYS and FOREVER.

We ask you to join us and stand in solidarity against systemic racism and support in any way you can on this night.

Impact
Our projects help young people to develop musically, of course, and they have personal and social outcomes too. We support young people to build their confidence, resilience, and self-esteem. To meet different kinds of people, learn to trust each other, and make friends. To develop vital skills they need, get support to be able to face the world, and take control of their own lives.
