Very Sick Dog needs some help

This is Nyx and I’m her mom Emily. It is very hard for me to ask for help but it’s at the point where I don’t have other choices. Nyx started to have nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea on 12/30/22 and was treated at her regular vet. This was also the same day the heat in the house went out. While the boiler was being looked at and diagnosed as needing to be replaced ($7500); Nyx was referred to the emergency clinic for further work up. After some diagnostics and $891 it was decided it was probably pancreatitis and she came home with me. She did fairly well getting meds, small meals, and going out side every 2hrs till Sunday night when she didn’t want to eat again. I took her back to the emergency clinic and she was found to have elevated BUN/Creatine-values that indicate an issue with the kidneys(these values were normal on Friday during her first visit) and to have very low platelets-a component of the blood that helps with clotting. The decision was made to have her stay overnight at the emergency vet; it is Thursday and she is still there and the bill is adding up. The veterinarians have consulted alot of people. She has had recheck bloodwork everyday, ultrasounds, X-rays etc. Currently they know she has an Acute Kidney Injury most likely caused by some kind of infection which they can not currently figure out. All tests for tick borne disease and the like have so far been negative. They have ruled out cancer so hopefully this will be fixable if they can figure out what is causing it. She has developed several other symptoms including edema, low protein, and some fluid in her lungs/heart that all point to some kind of infection they can’t find being the cause of all of this. She is on multiple antibiotics, steroids, tummy medications, and plasma. I can’t give up on her if this is just a terrible infection that needs to be found. I’m a realistic person and if this was cancer and her time we would make the right choices but she has no other previous medical issues or been on any medications. I wouldn’t ask for help but on top of the boiler my other dog has surgery on her knees earlier this year ($9000) that is currently still being paid off. Nyx’s bill is running at $6000 right now and the weight of that feels crushing. I am a nurse and I have two jobs and work pretty hard but just like so many other people I don’t have resources for all of this. I know alot of people know what that crushing weight of debt feels like while you are trying to make the best decisions for someone’s well being and it’s even hard to ask for help to relieve that. But even a dollar would be very meaningful.
