Vests for K9 Police
Donation protected
We have raised enough for Falo's vest and are containing on to work to outfit him and the other four K9s with lightweight, custom fitted bullet and stab proof vests. To do that, I had to adjust our financial goal to cover all 5 dogs. If you've already contributed, THANK YOU! Please pass our link on to others of interest. I am in awe of the kindness and generosity of so many people out there. With enormous gratitude, Lisa Kim on behalf of the K-9s of Johnson County.
K9 police officers are a vital part of the police force and protect our communities in ways their human counterparts simply cannot. They are trained to detect explosives and are sweeping arenas and events before you ever arrive keeping you safe. People may assume all K9s are drug dogs but that is a misconception.
Falo, for instance, was a very busy guy here during the presidential caucus.
Although right here he's enjoying one of his leisure time activities, Kong!
These highly trained and disciplined animals run faster, track scents that no human can and they do so tirelessly and fearlessly. These K9s are loyal, tireless and unrelenting. German Shepards and Belgian Malinois are perfect breeds for this job. Not all departments have a budget that accommodates having a K9 partner. Those budgets that do mostly cannot also supply their safety equipment, a bulletproof and stab proof vest. Every officer on the street wears a vest yet these 4 legged officers are not afforded the same protection because they are cost prohibitive. K9 police and military dogs are often killed are maimed in the line of duty. Their lives matter, too.
In researching companies that produce these vests, I find that one vest can range between $2300-3500 per vest. As a Johnson County, Iowa resident, I'm particularly sweet on Falo, the University's bomb dog that you see pictured. I love all animals including working ones like Falo. I would like to support their care and safety and raise money to donate vests for these K9s. I'm starting small but my hope is to far exceed my goal and continue purchasing and donating vests far outside our local community.
Any donation made will go directly to the purchase of vests for these amazing creatures. I will update periodically with how many we animals we are able to save and protect so that they continue their vital work.
Thank you for considering a donation.
