Local Hero Takes a Stand—And a Seat—For a Cause

Our current campaign (Oct-Nov 2024) is to support the Post's Suicide Awareness Committee and victims of Hurricane Helene.

Steve Hamilton, a proud Navy veteran and past Post Commander of VFW Post 2111, is taking a stand in a way few would expect. Deeply moved by the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Steve decided enough was enough. To bring attention to the needs of hurricane victims and also support his Post’s Suicide Awareness Committee, he organized a sit-in like no other.

Starting on October 26, 2024, Steve has stationed himself in a makeshift jail cell in the parking lot of VFW Post 2111, located at 299 I Street, Chula Vista, CA. He has committed to remain in this "cell" around the clock, night and day, until his fundraising goal is met.

“It’s a small sacrifice,” Steve says, “compared to the suffering people are going through after the hurricane and those struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts.” This fundraiser not only brings much-needed assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene, but also supports a cause close to his heart: suicide awareness.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by, chat with Steve, and show their support. His dedication is a testament to the power of community, compassion, and resilience. Let's help Steve reach his goal—every dollar and every visit counts.

VFW Post 2111, located at 299 I Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910 is a 501(c)(19) organization. Our Suicide Awareness Committee brings awareness to suicide prevention by hosting multi-day bicycle rides, "convoys," to southern California cities.
