Baby Evalynn

Hi, my name is Halle on December 27, 2024 I made a Facebook post explaining the horror story of what happened to my baby niece at ESHC hospital. From this post I explained how my sister (Katelynn) and her boyfriend (Quentin) brought my niece Evalynn into the hospital around 5pm on Christmas Day. Evalynn had not been holding down any formula for 24 hours and was lethargic and dehydrated with a fever of 104°F. After my sister brought her to the ESHC the doctor did bloodwork, A chest X-ray and a urine test. From all of these test the doctor decided to send Evalynn a three month old baby home stating that "it be a cold or hand foot and mouth disease". Other than this the doctor made snarky comments when the parents addressed their concerns like when they told him she's had been projectile vomiting he said "well projectile vomit is from this wall to this wall, so was she really?" The next day Evalynn still hadn't held down any formula and she was looking worse than before, so they decided to bring her to MET hospital in Windsor. Once they got to MET instantly MET had doctors bring Evalynn up to the paediatric floor. MET than pulled the bloodwork ESHC had done and realized the doctor had released Evalynn with a CRP(C-reactive protein) level of 300. CRP is a marker they look for that is an immediate red flag normally it would be around 10! The next day at MET hospital this was now at 400. If my niece hadn't been brought to the hospital the next day she would've died because ESHC missed this very important level. Met hospital diagnosed her with bacterial meningitis that was a strep virus which travelled into her bloodstream than infected her brain and spine. She then had a lot of puss/fluid due to this and is at high risk for a lot of complications. bacterial Meningitis is something that needs to be caught right away and the parents did catch it right away, unfortunately A doctor at ESHC failed to do so. Met hospital than had the London children hospital team come out to Assist in Evalynn's care, unfortunately at this time she was so dehydrated that MET couldn't find a vein. Thankfully once the London team arrived they were able to find a vein but ultimately decided she would be okay to stay in Windsor at MET. The following day after reviewing the MRI that was done at MET, London and Met decided that her case was too severe and it would be best if Evalynn did get transferred to the children's hospital in London. Since Evalynn has now been in London they have ran multiple tests to see the extent of the infection. We now know that she has had multiple strokes, and is having seizures that are still on going. Evelynn still has fluid/puss surrounding her brain and pockets of fluid/puss deep within the brain. She is currently on seizure medication as well as two other antibiotics, and will be staying at Victoria Children's Hospital in London for a minimum of four to six weeks. The team at Londons hospital are amazing and they are doing everything in their power to get Evalynn better.
Currently as of December 30, 2024 she has had a heart ultrasound to see if the infection has spread into the heart as her heart rate has continuously been dropping over the past few days. She is also having an overnight EEG to figure out what parts of the brain have been damaged. Sadly she is still having a hard time keeping formula down and she is getting most of her vitamins threw an IV. We have now been made aware that this is a very severe case and we need to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Unfortunately we are still unsure of how Evalynn's quality of life will be and the long term effects but hopefully theses tests will give us a better idea.
We are extremely grateful for the awareness this community has brought together, and we are so grateful for all of the prayers and support we have received. everything happened so fast and the support has been so extremely helpful in these tragic times. All of these donations will go towards Evalynn's journey to get better! And we would like to thank each and every single one of you for listening and sharing our story.
