Elona's Medical and Funeral Bills
On December 14th, 2015 my Mom was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. We were told by the doctors that after recovering from mastectomy surgery, she would start chemo and radiation treatment for 3 months.
Just a few weeks later, we were told that she had Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was placed in intensive care at a Manhattan hospital for additional months. Acute Luekemia is a blood-forming cancer that hinders the bodies ability to fight infections and has a 5-year survival rate of 25%.
Once all of the infusions and bone marrow transplant were completed, my Mom finally came home in the hopes to start Leukemia chemotherapy and live a better life. In those few months, she became healthier. However, recently, her kidneys levels were rising and the doctors told us she is suffering from HUS, a kidney disease brought by the transplant, that is spreading toxins to her brain and preventing them from leaving her body.
She has been in the intensive care unit in a medically induced coma, on life support, with a breathing tube down her throat for over a week now.
My parents, who wouldn't ask anyone to spare a penny on them, are some of the hardest working people I know and I am fortunate every single day to have them. Like many families, my Dad has been struggling to support our family; as already having two kids attending college, one living at home and now, a hefty amount of hospital bills to pay for his wife.
As a daughter, I am asking for help to relieve my Dad of the financial distress but more importantly, for your thoughts and prayers because they will only help my Mom’s fight against this disease. Thank you all so much for the love and support, it means the world.
With love,
Jillian
