Allison's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Thursday January 11th, Allison (Cortinovis) Carpenter suffered a severe brainstem stroke. She is currently in the ICU in Pittsburgh and will have a very long road to recovery. Allison is a nurse in the Pittsburgh Area and has always provided amazing care to her patients, now she finds herself on the receiving end of care. Her family is so grateful for all of the support that she has received so far and are asking for continued prayers for Allison.
Allison will require ongoing/intensive therapy. Any funds collected will help with her healing, as well as support her husband and baby son as they navigate and support her through recovery. Allison and her family’s lives have been turned upside down and any amount will help to ease their financial burden. Thanks to everyone for their continued support.
UPDATE as of March 2024...
Thank you for checking in! Allison has been settling into her new routine at home. She will continue to face challenges, but is taking things day by day. Allison will have outpatient therapy 2 to 3 times a week. She is still in need of both wheelchair and walker, but regaining strength little by little. Her vision is still greatly impacted, which is affecting her ability to focus and maintain her balance. There will be continued visits to her specialists for ongoing care, but with the support of her family and friends she is working through the trauma of what she's experienced.
Being in her own home and having the opportunity to spend time with her little boy has been the best therapy for her overall wellbeing. We are all so grateful that she has those daily snuggles and know that Allison will continue to focus on her goals of getting stronger so that she can be there not only for herself, but also for her family!
UPDATE as of February 23rd....We wanted to update all of our supporters and well-wishers with some recent news. Allison was transferred to intensive stroke rehab at Mercy in-patient last week. She has been settling into her new routine of various therapies throughout the day. Her schedule is packed with PT, OT, and Speech Therapy so by the end of the day she's pretty exhausted, but remains focused on the end goal of getting home to her family. Life will be a bit different for the foreseeable future as Allison will initially require a wheelchair and other support instrumental to her care and well-being. We're still unsure as to why her dissection initially occurred, but we're focusing on the huge achievements that Allison has accomplished so far, the strength that she has both inside and out, and the power of prayer and positivity that we've all felt from so many people. Thank you!
UPDATE as of January 26th....
Allison has been moved from the ICU to a LTAC and will begin the next chapter of her recovery. She will continue to receive complex, intensive care, for the foreseeable future. Allison is a fighter who has a lot of love and support surrounding her. We remind her daily of the prayers and positive vibes being sent her way.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support, please continue to keep the positive thoughts and prayers coming!
