Vickie Fairchild's Celebration of Life
Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and those who were lucky enough to love, and be loved, by my sweet mama, Vickie Fairchild. My name is Alex Fairchild, Vickie's daughter, and I am starting this fundraiser to help with my mom's medical, memorial, and other related expenses. In lieu of flowers, a percentage of donations will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation on behalf of my mom and her fight per my mama's wishes.
Vickie Fairchild passed away at 65 years young on Monday, October 30th, 2023 at 6:55am surrounded by our loving family. My mom was first diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer in May 2020 when she had a mastectomy of her breast. We and her doctor's thought she was free of cancer but through recent health battles and a lot of unanswered questions, we found out she had secondary metastatic breast cancer just a short 2 weeks ago and was given 1-3 weeks to live. Given the odds, my mom told us she wanted to fight-- even if it were a 1% chance it would cure her, she wanted to fight. She said she wanted to be an advocate for people in her position. My mom was a fighter and she was stronger than ever. Her doctors even called her a conundrum for how hard she was choosing to fight for her life. My mom decided to do chemo and we all prayed for a miracle. My sweet mama lost her battle to breast cancer on Monday, October 30th, 2023 in the early morning after putting up one hell of a fight-- as she said she would.
As a family, we are in shock and we are just heart broken. There are truly no words for this type of tragedy and sudden loss of someone who has always been the brightest light in every single room. My mom never met a stranger; she always knew how to make people laugh or smile. She was the best ally for the LGBT community and believed in love, kindness, and equality for all and she truly fought for that. My mom was strong, she was a powerhouse. Through this more than ever, she proved her strength and determination. She loved her cats, Bowie and Rebel, with her whole heart. Named after David Bowie and Tom Petty of course. I am sure you all know of her beloved granddogs as well, Remy and Kingsley James. She had the best work family at ACAC at Albemarle Square. She worked for ACAC for close to 9 years helping heal her clients, being a friendly face to members and coworkers, and provide a safe place for so many people. She was always a listening ear. She was so giving and she was so deserving of much more than this tragedy.
I know she was met by her father and my grandfather, Garland Fairchild, her granddog, Lucy Mae, Tom Petty, David Bowie, and so many of her sweet loved ones and spiritual guides. She loved all of you, you know who you are. She cared immensely for those in her life.
We are planning a Celebration of Life to celebrate my mom and the adventurous, loving, and fun soul she was. Please check here for further details.
