Our dear friend Vicki was in a very serious moped accident on Madeline Island this past week. She is hospitalized in Duluth with a broken shoulder that needed surgery to put in a plate and 9 screws. She also has 30 stitches in her forehead and a Traumatic Brain Injury. And yes, she was wearing her helmet.
Vicki has been a hairstylist for almost 30 years and owns and operates the only hair salon in Bayfield, WI called Hair by the Bay. If you've ever walked the beautiful streets in this gorgeous little town, you've certainly walked right by her shop. Most days, Tess, her beautiful dog would greet her customers at the door.
Vicki moved to Bayfield from the Twin Cities a few years back when she had the opportunity to take over a 2 chair salon right downtown and made an immediate success of it. Her years of experience and continued education with her skills made her a favorite with the locals and tourists alike. She has had a love-affair with Bayfield since she was a child and owning her own salon there was a dream come true for her.
She's lucky to be alive, but it's going to be a tough recovery for her. Not just physically and mentally — but most certainly financially. As you may know, stylists depend on their hands, arms and body to generate their income. She is not only losing out on her own income, but she also is not generating income to keep the salon covered -- and don't forget the medical expenses. She has at least 2-3 months recovery and could use the support of her friends, family and community right now.
She is a strong, independent woman and will probably kick my arse for doing this, but we'll take that up later when she gets her strength back:)
Please help Vicki recover from this (and keep the residents of Bayfield from using their kitchen shears) by giving what you can and sharing with everyone you know. Every little thing helps.
All donations will go directly to Vicki!!
