Vicky Whitley Medical Mission Trip
Donation protected
My name is Vicky Whitley (shown in the above picture to the right) and I am raising funds for an immediate three week emergency medical mission trip to Bangladesh.
I am a follower of Christ and a Registered Nurse. I have worked in a hospital setting for 32 years and currently serve as a RN First Assistant in the operating room for traditional and trauma surgeries. God has blessed me with opportunities to use my skills to share His love in a practical way, especially through medical mission trips and several disaster relief/emergency trauma mission trips. These have included such places as Haiti-Dominican Republic following the 2010 earthquake and, most recently, Samaritan’s Purse emergency field trauma hospital in Iraq to treat the people (mostly women and children) injured during the battle to liberate Mosul.
I am raising these funds to support Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh and assist in their urgent need for operating room staff there. My team will be treating Rohingya people who have been forced to flee their homes in Myanmar, crossing the border into Bangladesh, to escape genocidal acts of violence against them. I was contacted by World Medical Mission (WMM), a medical ministry of Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse, and asked if I could depart for Bangladesh immediately. WMM was founded in 1977 and places critically needed Christian medical personnel in volunteer, short-term service to remote mission hospitals. In order to participate, I need to raise my own support for immediate travel to and from Bangladesh, as well as food, logistics and incidentals during the trip. My goal to adequately cover all expenses for the three week trip and fund raising fees is $4,000.
(A report from PBS Newshour - September 18 - describes the violence)
"They can barely walk or speak, desperate and starving. Close to half-a-million Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh in the past three weeks, escaping violent attacks carried out by Myanmar troops and Buddhist vigilantes."
Many of the victims are women and children. The violence is not primarily focused against insurgents, but against an entire peoples group, the Rohingyas - consisting of men, women and children alike who are being killed, tortured, and many severely wounded in an ongoing attempt to rid the earth of their presence altogether. The WMM is rushing aid to these displaced Rohingya seeking refuge in Bangladesh - many of them injured and hungry, and all destitute and homeless. Their villages have been systematically burned so that they have no homes to return to. Thus, the WMM provides Christ's touch of healing and unconditional love to these mostly Muslim refugees.
You may feel as though you have no way to go to Bangladesh and personally help these desperate individuals. But, by sponsoring me, you ARE going and directly assisting these people in need! I will be your caring hands and compassionate heart that shares the love of Jesus with all He brings in my path, while working tirelessly to save every life possible. I don’t have adequate words to thank you enough for sacrificing and giving to this important mission - and neither do all those I will help because of you! But I will keep you informed of my activities there as I am able via GoFundMe.com updates about this campaign. And, upon my return, I will also send a longer, final update to you via the GoFundMe application in appreciation of your contribution, prayers and support.
